Messaging therapy
Unlimited text chat with your therapist using our secure messaging platform.
Communication is constantly evolving. With new forms of technology coming into our lives we are changing how we express ourselves. Many people now prefer using text messaging apps to communicate. Some of us prefer this because we can carefully craft a reply that sums up exactly how we feel. And there is no pressure if we are stuck for what to say next.
And so we've developed 'messenger therapy' which works just like the messenger/chat apps we all use in our personal lives. Only this dedicated service allows you to send and receive text messages with the same expert anxiety therapists that work with clients face-to-face and over video sessions.
The five main advantages of this type of service are:
You'll be able to build up a close working relationship with one dedicated therapist who will work with you throughout your therapy. That one therapist will keep and have access to your notes which are stored with the same level of security as our face to face and video clients.
You'll be able to contact them and receive a personal reply as many times as you like throughout the work. Please allow up to 24 hours for them to read your message, refer to your notes and craft a carefully thought-through response.
There is no need to travel into our clinic or keep a regular video appointment. You can message any time, 24 hours a day, whenever is convenient for you.
During intensive periods of work, there is no waiting for a weekly appointment. You can have daily contact with your therapist if a lot is happening. Then when you're in a phase where you're implementing the things you've been working on there's no need to keep regular appointments. You can feed back on how the work is going as and when it suits you.
The cost for this service is significantly lower than a weekly therapy session at just £160 per month for your subscription. There are no additional costs or caps on usage, however intensively you wish to work with your therapist.
What might it look like?
Hi Chris. I tried to do the experiment we talked about where I face up my panic attacks and go into the shopping centre. But when I got there it was too busy and I couldn’t face it.
Hi Angela. You should be really proud. A few months ago you were overwhelmed by panic attacks and you wouldn’t leave the house. The fact that you left home and went to the shopping centre on purpose shows you’re developing a real anti-anxious mindset. Don’t worry that you didn’t manage to go in today. It was a big step forward just getting there. What do you think a good next step would be?
I guess I should be proud for getting this far. Maybe I could go back in the week when it’s quieter and see if I can face it then.
I think that’s a great idea. Remember it’s just an experiment. There’s no bad outcome. Even when you can’t face something we’re still learning something about what you can tolerate and that’s valuable. Let me know how you get on.
What are the fees?
Messaging therapy is free to try for the first 7 days and then moves onto a £160 per month rolling contract. You can cancel at any time.
There are additional fees if you want to supplement your messaging with face-to-face appointments at the clinic, or video calls. See our fees page for more details.

Frequently asked questions
What kinds of problems can my therapist support me with?
We help clients with a range of anxiety-related disorders for which they may never have had a formal diagnosis. Many of our clients have been managing their symptoms of anxiety for years and even decades before they come to us.
Often people will come to us in a period of crisis looking for relief from panic attacks, intrusive thoughts, excessive worry, social problems or specific phobias. But after exploring their issues and making the necessary changes, they find that their symptoms have reduced significantly, and they better understand how to manage their anxiety more generally. We can help with:
- Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
- Social Phobia
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Work Anxiety
- Panic Disorder
- Substance Use (including alcohol) to cope with anxiety
- Relationship problems caused by anxiety
- Education Anxiety
- Self Esteem issues
Will I be able to message the same therapist each time I contact you?
Yes. You'll be able to build up a close working relationship with one dedicated therapist who will work with you throughout your therapy. That one therapist will keep and have access to your notes which are stored with the same level of security as our face to face and video clients.
Will I ever need to travel to the clinic in Leeds for sessions?
There is no need to travel into our clinic or keep a regular appointment. You can message any time, 24 hours a day, whenever is convenient for you.
How often will I be able to contact you?
You can contact us as often as you like. During intensive periods of work, this means there is no waiting for a weekly appointment. You can have daily contact with your therapist if a lot is happening. Then when you're in a phase where you're implementing the things you've been working on there's no need to keep regular appointments. You can feed back on how the work is going as and when it suits you.
Is there a minimum time I’m contracted to the service for?
No. Each month you pay for the monthly subscription in advance. You can cancel at any time with 24 hours notice. Your subscription will remain active until the end of the month. No further payments will be taken but you will not be refunded for any time you did not use.
What if I don’t like my therapist?
Our therapists are all fully qualified experts in helping clients work through their problems in a kind, creative and compassionate way. However, if for whatever reason you and your therapist are not working well together, you can request to change therapist. We will offer you an alternative. Of course, you always have the option to end your subscription if you’re not happy with your therapist, the alternative we offer or for any other reason.
Can I supplement my text chat with video sessions?
The majority of our therapists also offer sessions over video. Video therapy sessions are charged per session and not available on a subscription basis. You can also change from messaging to video if you prefer this way of working.
